During the February 17, 2022 meeting, Trustee Cera announced that our application to become a Tree City USA community was approved. So what is Tree City USA? The Tree City USA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. Tree City USA has four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.

The Township is providing residents with the opportunity for us to plant a street tree in front of their home, within the Township right-of-way. If you’re interested, please click on the link below.

“I am excited about winning a Tree City USA designation for the Township, and about our new street tree program," Trustee Cera siad. "We are committed to sustainability and are greening our neighborhoods for the health and welfare of the planet and our residents. We are gladly taking applications from  anyone interested in having a tree planted in the right-of-way in front of their home.”

Trees reduce energy costs up to 25% by shading buildings and protecting them from winter winds. Homes with trees have higher property values. The presence of trees has been shown to help reduce crime. Green space plays a major role in improving mental and physical health.
